What Oh Deer is

Oh Deer is a multiplayer hide-and-seek game where one player takes the role of the hunter and up to four others play as deer. The hunter has to track down and eliminate the deer before nightfall, using sound, gadgets, and skill to close in. The catch is that the forest is also full of AI deer, so the hunter has to decide whether the deer in their sights is a real player or just part of the herd. That uncertainty is the core of the round.

Playing together

Your group splits into the two sides: one friend becomes the hunter, the rest become deer. The deer spread out across the map and try to pass for one of the AI deer scattered around, while the hunter works through the woods to pick out the fakes. Rounds work as online co-op and online PvP, so the group plays against each other rather than against the game itself. Roles are the whole setup, so a group of two to five can jump straight in and swap sides between rounds.

The forest and the deer's job

The map is a forest full of tall trees, thick bushes, shade, and flowers — good cover for an ambush in either direction. Deer have to eat to keep hunger under control, but eating at the wrong moment can give the hunter an opening. Blending in means moving like the herd, staying near the AI deer, and not drawing attention to yourself. The hunter, meanwhile, is reading the environment for anything that looks off.

Before you start

Expect a mix of stealth, archery, and social deduction with a comedic, satirical tone — it plays like a horror-tinged hunting trip that does not take itself too seriously. The tension comes from the guessing game on both sides: the deer guessing when it is safe to move and eat, and the hunter guessing which deer is worth an arrow. Bring a group that enjoys reading other players and bluffing, since the round is won on observation and timing as much as on aim.
