What Odd Remedy is
Odd Remedy is an online multiplayer action-adventure game set on an abandoned island overrun by monster spiders. You play as a prisoner sent in by Blackfang Corp, a secret government-backed military unit that ran weapon and people experiments on Hell Island. Their spider subjects escaped the facility, multiplied in the forest and pushed into the city, and the workers fled. Now the company sends in prisoners to fix the mess while watching from a distance. You're called the odd remedy, but you have your own plans.
The island map is procedurally generated, so every run is a different layout. You loot the city for tools and survival gear, hoard and craft items, and use first-person combat and stealth to get past the spider hordes. Enemy behaviour is dynamic, so the same route can play out differently. Destroy the isolating dungeon to reveal the secret boat, attach it to your car, and hit the off-road before Blackfang Corp catches you.
Playing together with friends
The game supports online multiplayer with up to 8 players, and you can also go in alone. Stealth is an option, but against spider hordes your fellow prisoners are what really raise your odds — fight together and split the work across objectives.
The phone system is the main tool for coordination: calls, messages, and taking or sending photos and videos between players. Your phones make noise, which can pull unwanted attention, so using them has a cost. Proximity voice chat is available for talking to whoever is nearby. Alongside that, there is Prisongram and a Versus Hot Egg mode.
Vehicles are physical and interactive, and you drive your car with the boat in tow on your way out. Player faces are customizable with any image file, and you can take selfies in the car before you set sail.
Before you start
Expect a run to be a mix of looting, crafting and driving rather than one straight firefight. Manage your inventory between trips, craft useful items for the next journey, and collect items to upgrade and customize your prison workplace — that base is where you prepare.
The island is large and open, and you can reach goals your own way, but the spiders won't let you feel safe at any turn. Objects and items interact on a physics basis, so handling things in the world behaves accordingly. It's currently in Early Access, so things can change as development continues.
