You play as a mushroom in the forest
Mushroom Simulator Co-op puts you and your friends in a forest where everyone is a mushroom. You pick a spot in a clearing, get a random mushroom skin, and start growing. The main mechanic is your own voice: speaking into your mic sends voice waves into the mycelium and speeds up your growth. Louder and longer means more food for your cap. There are no quests and no bosses here, just the forest and the creatures living in it. The goal is simple — survive, grow, and look after your little ones.
Noise is both your tool and your problem
Voice is useful in more than one way. A hedgehog eyeing your cap can be scared off by yelling at it, which sends it running. But sound carries, and noise can pull in things you would rather not meet. So you spend the run balancing two instincts: speak up to grow and defend yourself, or clamp your mouth shut and hope nothing noticed you. When a forager with a basket wanders into your clearing, your only real option is to stay perfectly still and pretend you are not there. One sneeze and all that is left of you is spores. It is a stealth game where your microphone is the thing that can save you or get you eaten.
Raising a family and playing with friends
You are not alone out there. You can raise little mushrooms and keep them safe from the dangers of the forest, including shooting worms at Grandpa Geo when he gets too close to your family. Nobody kicks your family around. Online co-op lets you and your friends share a clearing, each with your own random skin, and survive together. Along the way you meet strange creatures and, in the game's own words, learn to accept yourself for who you are. Expect a relaxed, PvE run with a comedic edge rather than a competitive one — the forest is the challenge, and your friends are the company.
