What Mobile Forces is

Mobile Forces is a first person shooter where you fight an opposing AI team or play against your friends over a LAN network. It sits in the arena shooter space: matches are built around set objectives on a map rather than a long campaign. The game offers two singleplayer modes, Missions and Skirmish. Missions send you through a sequence of maps that unlock as you complete each one, and the AI bot difficulty rises as you go, moving through seven skill levels. Skirmish is for custom matches, so you can set up the mode and map you want and play it straight away.

The game modes

Missions and Skirmish both draw on a set of game modes. Deathmatch is pure elimination: take out everyone on the map. Team Deathmatch does the same thing split into Red and Blue teams. Captains gives each team a captain, and the team that kills the opposing captain the most times wins. Capture the flag has both teams stealing each other's flags. Holdout puts one team on defence, holding a beacon, while the other team has a set period of time to take it. Detonation has both sides racing for a keycard in the middle of the map, then carrying it to a console in the enemy base to activate an explosive device and score. Safe Cracker is an infiltration mode: break into the enemy base, open the safe and take the loot, then the teams switch bases for the next round. Trailer is a vehicle mode where you drive explosive-laden units into the opponent's base to earn points, and driving well matters as much as shooting.

Playing together and getting set up

You can play against friends over a LAN network, or use Remote Play Together to join in from elsewhere. Against the AI, work through Missions to unlock maps and push into the higher bot skill levels, or drop into Skirmish when you want a specific mode and map without working through the sequence. Pick a mode that suits your group: Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch for straightforward shooting, Captains or Holdout when you want a clear objective to defend or chase, Capture the flag and Detonation for back-and-forth runs across the map, Safe Cracker for base infiltration, Trailer if you want vehicles in the mix. Expect the AI to get noticeably tougher as you progress, so earlier maps are a good place to learn the modes before the skill levels climb.
