A political and economic simulation from 1600
Mittelland AD is a classic political and economic simulation set in Germany in the year 1600, at the start of the Thirty Years' War. You begin with an inheritance that opens the door to the trade and politics of the era, and you work your way from poverty toward wealth and status. The game covers commerce, intrigue, and politics in a world where the Middle Ages give way to the Age of Enlightenment. It is the revised version of the 1996 classic Die Fugger 2, with improved music, several bug fixes, and all non-historical references to the Fugger family removed. It is the predecessor of Europa 1400: The Guild and The Guild 2.
How a group plays together
The game includes a Hotseat mode for up to 6 players, played locally or online via Steam Remote Play Together. Players take turns at the same session, each managing their own path through trade, offices, and political maneuvering. Alongside the multiplayer mode, the game offers 30 missions with varying levels of difficulty and objectives for single play.
What to know before starting
You trade in 15 goods across 3 counties and 10 cities, and you can pursue 40 political offices, each with its own privileges. The world includes customs forts, robber camps, sieges, numerous disasters, and random events that can change your plans. Interactive cutscenes cover trials, appointments to office, auctions, and combat scenarios, and the game includes historical background information on European politics from 1600 onward. Whether you rise to the high nobility or end up in the debtor's prison depends on your decisions. Texts, voiceovers, and the manual are fully available in German and English, and the game comes with a printable game box to craft.
