A shark-shaped action-platformer
Makis Adventure is a 2D pixel-art action-platformer with hand-drawn touches and a dark fantasy setting. You play as Maki, who fights, dashes, swims and bites through three different dungeons. The dungeons are linear side-scrolling levels packed with opponents, and each one has a mini boss and an end boss, so there is a steady climb of tougher fights as you go. The tag list also points to Metroidvania and exploration elements, and the game rewards players who poke around for hidden treasures and locations.
How the shark mechanic works
The core trick is the transformation: when Maki enters water, he turns into a Shark, and the game switches from platforming to momentum-based Shark gameplay. Over the course of the game you unlock all 3 shark shapes, so the water sections change as you progress. This means the same level can play very differently depending on whether you are on dry land jumping and dashing or in the water moving with speed and momentum. Finding your own fighting style is part of the appeal — some players will lean into combat, others into exploring.
Moving between islands
The dungeons themselves are 2D pixel art, but you travel between them in a 3D hub world. From there you pick which island to visit next, and the game offers a variety of islands with friendly characters to meet and new friends to make. The structure is a big explorable world wrapped around the tighter dungeon runs, so there is a break between fights where you can wander and look for secrets.
Playing together and before you start
The Steam features list includes Remote Play Together, so a friend can join your session remotely. The tags also list Singleplayer, so the game is built around one player at the controls with others watching or joining through that remote feature. Expect a linear progression through three dungeons with bosses gating your way forward, platforming that mixes standard jumps with the Shark sections, and exploration that pays off with hidden spots for players who take their time.
