A rebalanced 2D fighter set in the Three Kingdoms

Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai is a comprehensive rebalance of Koihime Enbu, built on the latest arcade version of the game. It's a 2D fighter with an all-female cast of warlords fighting over ancient China's Three Kingdoms. The roster holds 14 playable characters, and Chōryō and the assist character Kaku join their rivals on the battlefield for the first time. Alongside them you pick from 8 strategists who act as assists, so your character choice and your strategist choice combine into a battle plan. The controls are streamlined so you can get into a match quickly, and the balance work aims to make the game approachable whether you've played fighters for years or not.

How a group plays it together

Battle friends locally, or take the fight online with matchmaking and online rankings. The game also supports Online PvP and Remote Play Together, so your group can play across the internet or share a session from one machine. Before you jump into a set, you can practice in Training Mode, then test what you learned in Challenge Mode. Arcade Mode follows your chosen heroine's story, and Replay Mode lets you watch matches back to relive a win or work out where a round went wrong.

Combat systems worth knowing before you start

The Hougeki system, or Fatal Counter, is the core of the offense. Land one and you get the freedom to build your own combo out of EX Special Attacks, Ougi and Hiougi. Managing the Tactics Bar is what lets you keep those sequences going and turn them into heavy damage. The move list runs from special moves through EX special moves, super moves and ultimate moves, so there's a ladder of options to learn rather than a single button to lean on. Mixing your 14 characters with the 8 strategists changes what your plan can do, which is where most of the depth sits between matches.
