Furniture building with a broken chain of command
KallaX puts you and your friends in the role of aliens working aboard a spaceship built to deliver furniture across the universe. The job is to complete orders by assembling pieces such as tables, ironing boards and cat trees. The catch is that only one player can read the instruction manual at any given moment, and that person cannot see what everyone else is doing. Everyone else has to build from verbal descriptions alone, which is where the miscommunication and the mistakes come in. The game runs in 3D with a colorful, stylized look and supports controller play.
Playing together as a team
KallaX is an online co-op game for 2 to 6 players. The group works through more than 60 levels set in varied environments, covering furniture for the living room, bathroom and bedroom, with over 25 pieces of furniture and their variations. The manual holder has to call out steps while the rest of the team handles the parts, which leads to the usual chaos of asking who has the screwdriver. If a teammate becomes too much to deal with, you can throw them out the window and let them drift into space. Alongside the main levels there are bonus mini-games, and beating your high scores unlocks customization options and secret levels.
Before you start
Expect a casual, physics-driven experience where things go wrong on purpose. The difficulty comes from the split between what the manual reader knows and what the builders can see, so clear communication matters more than quick reflexes. Character customization is available, and the game is tagged as moddable. It is built around team play, so a group that enjoys laughing at its own mistakes will get more out of it than someone playing alone.
