A submarine built for VR

IronWolf VR is a roomscale submarine game you can play alone or in online co-op with motion controls. You take a U-boat out against enemy ships, convoys, planes and destroyers: fire torpedoes at surface targets, work the flak gun against fighters and bombers, and try to survive depth charges dropped by destroyers hunting you. The game is built from the ground up for VR, so every part of the submarine is laid out for use with motion controls rather than mapped onto buttons.

Running the boat with friends

Cooperative online multiplayer lets you share the submarine with other players. Each station is a physical object you grab and operate, so splitting up the crew means one person on the flak gun, another on the helm, another on the torpedo controls, and so on. Moving between compartments is done by operating doors and hatches by hand instead of teleporting, which keeps everyone anchored in the same space while they work. If you would rather play alone, you can enable assists set to your own requirements.

Controls, space and instruments

The submarine's controls are physically based wheels, levers and switches that mimic their real-life counterparts, with haptics and 3D audio giving feedback for fine control. All dials and gauges are designed to stay readable at current consumer VR headset resolutions, which matters when you are checking depth and speed under pressure.

The layout is planned for a minimum roomscale area of 2m x 1.5m, and every control inside each compartment is reachable within that space without immersion-breaking teleports. Worth knowing before you start: this is a VR game with motion controls, and you need that minimum play area to reach everything. Remote Play Together is available if someone in your group wants to join in.
