A Greco-Persian grand strategy campaign

Imperiums: Greek Wars is a turn-based 4X game set in the ancient world, starting in 359BC when Philip II of Macedon takes the throne. Macedonia is a backwater on the edge of the Hellenic world, but Philip dreams of leading all of Greece. You pick from 30 playable factions, from mighty Sparta and Athens to ambitious Macedonia, the declining Achaemenid Empire and its satrapies, smaller Greek city-states, and semi-nomadic groups on the outskirts of the Hellenic world. Each turn you explore the map, manage your economy at every level, handle political relations, and decide when to trade, negotiate or go to war. The world carries a mythological layer on top of the history: your generals can follow the footsteps of ancient heroes to find the Golden Fleece or untie the Gordian Knot, and uncover the truth behind Greek stories. Nation-specific objectives give you direction if you want it, and in-game guidance explains mechanics and offers recommendations as you learn.

Playing together with friends

The game supports online co-op, so you and your friends can work together in a campaign, and online PvP if you would rather race each other to victory against human cunning instead of the AI. Remote Play Together is also available, letting one player host and others join in. Either way, expect the same long-form campaign structure: shared turns, diplomacy between players, and the full weight of economy, military and politics on your shoulders. Multiplayer is where the scheming and unexpected turns show up most, since opponents are described as unforgiving and human players add their own slyness.

Before you start

This is a deep strategy game with a lot of systems running at once: economy, government, diplomacy, war, exploration and myth quests all demand attention, and every crisis lands on you as ruler. Decisiveness, tactical thinking and political shrewdness matter more than any single battle. The world is procedurally generated in the sense that realms can be created and shared, so you can play maps made by others or build your own for the group to try. The game is moddable, and choices matter across the campaign, so different decisions lead to different outcomes. Expect a slow, deliberate pace where planning over many turns pays off more than quick reactions.
