A real-time strategy take on the Halo war

Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is an enhanced version of the real-time strategy classic Halo Wars, updated to run natively on PC. It is set early in the war between the Covenant and the UNSC, the conflict known from the Halo games, and it brings new heroes onto the battlefield. Instead of a first-person view, you command large Halo armies directly: build bases, gather resources, produce vehicles and infantry, and send them into action-packed warfare. This Definitive Edition runs with improved graphics, added achievements, and all of the DLC that was made for the original game.

Playing with your group

The campaign can be played on your own, and it also supports online co-op, so you and friends can work through it together as one command. When you want to fight each other instead, online multiplayer lets you take armies of powerful Halo forces into battle against other players. Network play for this product is exclusive to Steam, and cross-play with the Windows Store versions of the same game is not supported, so everyone in your group should be on Steam to end up in the same match.

Before you start

Expect an RTS structure rather than a shooter: you are reading the map, placing buildings, managing production, and ordering units around, with the campaign and multiplayer sharing those systems. The tactical layer rewards planning your army composition and knowing when to commit your forces. Since co-op and PvP both run online, a stable connection matters, and your group needs matching platforms to play together. If some of you are new to strategy games, the campaign is the calmer entry point before jumping into competitive multiplayer battles.
