What the game is
Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is a real-time strategy game set in historical settings. You gather resources, build up a base, and command armies across isometric maps. The original campaign content returns with new narration and pacing, giving you over 40 hours of updated single-player material. The visuals have been rebuilt in 4K with overhauled animations, and the gameplay has been modernized while keeping the classic structure intact. A scenario builder is included so you can design your own maps and share them.
Playing together with friends
The main way to play together is through online PvP battles supporting up to 8 players. Each player runs their own economy and military, competing for control of the map. New competitive features and modes are included alongside the classic setup. Since this is a real-time game, everyone plays simultaneously, so matches move at the pace each player sets. Co-op is listed among the tags, and the scenario builder gives your group something to build and share between sessions.
Before you start
This is a remake of a 1990s title, so the isometric perspective and base-building focus carry over from the original. Expect to manage resource gathering, construction, and unit control in real time with no pauses between decisions. The game runs on Windows 10 PCs. If your group has played other RTS titles, the structure will feel familiar; if not, the campaign is a reasonable place to learn the systems before jumping into multiplayer battles.
