A hardcore combat racer built on speed

GRIP: Combat Racing puts you in an armored vehicle and sends it at speeds up to 767mph across floors, walls and ceilings. You pick from a roster of 30 vehicles, some swift and agile, others brutish and heavily armed, then race across 29 tracks spread over 4 exotic planets, from hostile icy worlds to non-terrestrial cities and the outer reaches of space. Along the way you grab 9 power-ups and weapons, including shields, turbos, rail-guns, missiles and explosive darts, each with alternate fire modes. The single player campaign has you beat in-game rivals and rise to the top while earning XP to unlock paint jobs, decals, tires and rims. There are also 19 point-to-point Carkour runs where you beat the clock and hunt for new pathways.

Ways to play with your group

Split-screen lets up to four players compete on the couch. Online, you can build your own tournament and line the grid with up to 10 players, with full matchmaking and lobby support. Team racing and deathmatch modes are on offer online, and 5 Arena battle maps are set aside for the deathmatch format. Remote Play Together is supported, so friends can join in over a connection. The game also runs in VR, where you feel every turn, impact and inversion.

Before you start

The tracks reward wall-riding and ceiling-surfing, so expect surfaces that would be walls in a normal racer to become your racing line. Weapons are a constant factor, so a clean lap can still end with a missile in your back. A 24 track licensed electronic soundtrack runs from techno and trance to drum n bass. The game is built in Unreal Engine 4.
