What Green Hell is
Green Hell is an open-world survival simulation set in the uncharted Amazon jungle. You craft tools, hunt for food, fight off dangers, gather resources, and build anything from a simple shelter to a multi-level base out of wood, bamboo, stones, mud, and ropes. Wounds are handled through an inspection mode where you check and tend your injuries, and you have to keep an eye on your mental health alongside your physical state. The game also lets you build up into the treetops, craft furniture, decorate, fortify your base, and light it at night.
There is a story campaign of 25+ hours following anthropologist Jake Higgins, stranded in the rainforest while searching for his missing wife Mia, with themes of survival, guilt, and the fragility of the human mind. Alongside it sits the free Spirits of Amazonia prequel campaign with over 20 hours, covering events that lead up to the original story. If you would rather skip the narrative, Endless Mode focuses purely on survival with all the gameplay systems in play.
Playing it with friends
You can play solo or team up with friends in online co-op to face the jungle together. A group can split the work that survival demands: some gather wood, bamboo, stone, mud, and rope, others hunt and cook, and someone keeps the shelter or fortress going. Co-op makes the building side scale up nicely, since multi-level structures and tamed animals need a lot of hands. The same co-op setup applies across the modes, so your group can run the campaign, the prequel, or endless survival as a team.
Before you start
Expect a demanding loop rather than a quick session: hunting, crafting, building, and wound care all need attention at the same time, and the jungle has predators and territorial enemies to deal with, including a Flamekeeper Challenge. The animal side is gentler — capybaras, tapirs, peccaries, armadillos, and anteaters can be bred, fed, and petted, and you can collect honey, bird feathers, eggs, and insects for your needs.
The game offers adjustable difficulty, adjustable text size, subtitle options, custom volume controls, stereo sound, camera comfort settings, and a mode playable without timed input, so you can tune it to your group before you set out. Controller support is partial, and progress syncs through Steam Cloud.
