What the game is
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Ecto Edition is an asymmetrical game of hide and seek built around a 4v1 setup. One player takes the role of a single Ghost, while the other four play as a team of new Ghostbusters. The Ghostbusters hunt through unique locations with proton packs, PKE Meters, and Ghost Traps, while the Ghost uses abilities like possessing objects and sliming to avoid capture. The game is designed to be easy to learn and fun to master, so it works for players at different skill levels. This edition includes the game along with all four DLC Drops from 2023.
How your group plays together
You can play solo or with up to four friends, and matches run online or offline. Bot-assisted play covers the single-player mode, so the group can fill seats when needed. Progression unlocks cosmetics and upgrades for both Ghostbusters and Ghosts, which changes how your characters look and how they play. The Firehouse and Ray's Occult Books serve as the hub where you pick missions, customize characters, practice firing proton packs, and explore. Original film actors reprise their roles as Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore, alongside new characters.
Before you start
Decide early how your group will split the 4v1 roles, since only one player can be the Ghost in a match. The Ghostbusters side leans on team-based coordination with iconic gear, while the Ghost side is about movement, possession, and evasion. The game carries a supernatural horror theme but is tagged as family friendly, so it suits mixed groups. Character customization is available for both sides, and the hub is where you handle that between missions.
