Driving Across Mexico

Forza Horizon 5 drops you into an open world based on Mexico and hands you a huge garage to explore it with. The map is varied enough that a ten-minute drive can take you from a living desert through a dense jungle, into a historic city, past hidden ruins and pristine beaches, along vast canyons, and up a snow-capped volcano. The point is not to grind a single loop. It is to pick a direction, floor it, and see what turns up on the way. Hundreds of cars are available, and the driving leans toward the fun side rather than the punishing side, so you can jump into something fast and loud without spending an evening tuning it first.

Playing With Friends

This is where the game is at its best for a group. Online Co-op and Online PvP are both built in, and Horizon Arcade is the standout: a rolling series of over-the-top group challenges that drop you and your friends straight into the action with no menus, loading screens, or lobbies to sit through. You just show up and the next event is already happening. Horizon Open and Tours are there for meeting other players and driving together more casually. If someone in your group likes building things rather than racing, EventLab gives them a full toolset for making custom races, challenges, stunts, and even entirely new game modes to hand out to everyone else. Gift Drops lets your creations reach the wider community too.

Seasons and Ongoing Events

The world keeps changing around you. Mexico has its own dynamic seasonal cycle that turns over every week, and the shifts are not cosmetic. Expect weather events like towering dust storms and intense tropical storms to reshape how a drive plays out. Each season brings fresh events, challenges, collectibles, rewards, and areas to open up, so coming back after a break usually means something new is waiting rather than the same static map.

Good to Know Before You Start

The campaign runs on hundreds of challenges built around whatever activities you actually enjoy, and Horizon Story missions introduce characters whose outcomes you choose, so there is structure if you want it. Car customization goes deeper than paint and decals, with details like opening and closing convertible tops and painting brake calipers. Jumping in with a friend group is low-friction: the co-op events keep everyone occupied without needing someone to host and organize. Start by touring the map together, then let whoever wants to build start messing around in EventLab.
