What Flying Tank Is

Flying Tank is a hand-drawn side-scrolling shmup from Hexage. You pilot a flying tank through 24 missions set on a stolen, post-apocalyptic Earth, fighting three distinct factions along the way. The action is dense with bullets, and you can slow the pace down with Bullet-Time or push harder with Overdrive. Between fights you spend upgrades on your tank, mixing classic weapons with stranger ones, plus bombs, attack drones, and repair drones. The campaign includes 6 main bosses and more than 18 midi and mini boss fights, so there is a steady rhythm of big encounters to break up the shooting.

Playing With a Friend

Flying Tank supports local co-op, so two people can take on the campaign on one screen. Steam's Remote Play Together is also listed, which lets you invite a Steam friend to join your run. Either way, one person drives the tank and the other joins the fight, so you share the same screen and the same pile of incoming fire. Coordination matters: decide who focuses on bosses, who drops bombs on crowds, and who spends the upgrade currency, since you are building one arsenal together.

Before You Start

Expect a bullet-hell style of play, so screen clutter and quick dodging are normal, and Bullet-Time exists for the moments when it gets too thick. The game is tagged for controller use, so having one on hand is worth it. Runs are built around picking weapons, bombs, and upgrades as you go, so your tank will feel different from mission to mission rather than staying fixed. The tone is anime-influenced and dystopian, with hand-drawn art and an original soundtrack credited to Kubatko, artwork by Zsolt Szabo, and sound design by Discofield. Localization covers French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, and Japanese.
