A block-built Earth worth defending
EARTH DEFENSE FORCE: WORLD BROTHERS takes the series to a parallel world where the Earth is made of digital blocks. Motherships led by the Dark Tyrant shattered the square planet into pieces, and the EDF soldiers on those pieces are now cut off from each other with no way to deliver aid or supplies. You take on the role of Commander of the EDF and start a counteroffensive: find the soldiers fighting across the planet's fragments, pull them together, and push back against the threats. Enemies you have faced in earlier EDF games show up here too, rendered in block form alongside the Invaders, Ravagers, and Aggressors that struck the planet before.
Building and running your team
Before each mission you assemble a team from the soldiers you have rescued, and each character brings its own traits to the fight. During battle you switch between teammates on the fly, picking whoever suits the moment — one soldier's strengths can be useless a few seconds later and vital the next. Missions can be attempted with up to four teammates under your control. The counteroffensive is about assembling a team that covers the gaps rather than relying on a single soldier.
Playing together online
The game supports 4-player online co-op, and each player joins the battle with their own team. So a full session puts four separately built squads on the field at once, with everyone bringing their own rescued soldiers, weapons, and vehicles into the mission. Co-op is one option — the campaign can also be played on your own.
What series veterans and newcomers get
Block versions of characters from every previous EDF release appear here, from EDF1 ("Monster Attack") through Earth Defense Force 5 and the spinoff titles, along with a wide range of weapons and vehicles carried over from those games. Anyone who has followed the series will spot familiar faces and gear, while newcomers get a concentrated tour of the franchise's history without needing to play the older entries first. Expect third-person shooting with a voxel look: blocky soldiers, blocky cities, and blocky invaders, with a tone that stays playful even as the planet falls apart.
