What the game is
Dying Light: The Beast is a first-person survival horror adventure set in the open world of Castor Woods. You play as Kyle Crane, who carries the DNA of both man and beast, and you can switch freely between two playstyles as his journey of vengeance unfolds. The world mixes a tourist town, industrial area, national park, farmland and swamps, all full of beauty and decay. Combat is physical and grounded in melee, with many weapons and modifiers to choose from, and your blows carry real momentum while enemies react believably. Parkour is a core part of moving through the world: running, sliding, jumping, climbing and hopping across rooftops, plus off-road vehicles you can drive through hordes of infected. The day-night cycle is central: explore and scavenge by day, and once the sun sets the night brings horrors that leave you three choices — run, hide or fight.
Playing it together as a group
You can team up with up to three other players in co-op, for a group of four. Progress is shared, so every encounter, discovery and twist plays out as a unit. The co-op campaign covers the same story and open world, so the group moves through Castor Woods together rather than splitting into separate sessions. The game also works as a single-player experience if someone in your group wants to play alone.
Before you start
Expect a long haul: the game packs more than 40 hours of survival adventure across single-player and co-op. It is a horror game with gore and violent content, and the infected are a deadly evolution of what came before, so the tone stays tense throughout. The night is a real pressure point — the ticking clock means you need to plan your scavenging runs around sunset rather than wandering freely at all hours. Beast powers add intensity to combat but do not remove the challenge, so melee timing and resource management still matter. The Deluxe Edition adds the Official Soundtrack, a wallpaper pack, the Castor Woods Tourist Map, and the Castor Woods Prepper Bundle with the Prepper Outfit, Survivalist SMG and Roadhog.
