A 3D fighter built on the Budokai Tenkaichi legacy
DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO is a 3D arena fighter from Spike Chunsoft that carries forward the Budokai Tenkaichi series. You pick a fighter and take them into fast, high-speed battles with beam clashes, rush attacks, movement too quick to see, and ultimate attacks that can raze a planet. The base game holds over 180 fighters drawn from Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, Dragon Ball GT, and selected Dragon Ball movies. Every character comes with their own signature abilities, transformations, and techniques, so matchups change depending on who is on screen. Matches run as spectacle fights with 3D movement around the arena rather than a flat left-right plane.
Playing together with your group
Your group has a few ways to play together. Online PvP lets you challenge other players to test your skills, and tournament modes give you structured fights with various victory conditions to work toward a champion. Offline, you can sit down with friends in the same room to hone your skills against each other. Remote Play Together is also supported, so one person can host and others join along. Co-op and local multiplayer tags are attached to the game alongside competitive PvP, so there is room both for friendly practice and for ranked-style challenges across the group.
Story modes and character perspectives
Outside of multiplayer, the game offers the action-packed battles from the original story for you to fight through yourself. You can also discover and unlock new encounters for your favorite Z-Fighters. Cutscenes let you relive moments from the series from the perspectives of eight characters, and you can recreate favorite battles from throughout the Dragon Ball story or assemble a dream story battle with your own choice of characters. Those creations can be shared with other fans, and you can play through battles imagined by players around the world.
Editions to sort out before you start
Several editions exist, so check what you are buying to avoid grabbing the same content twice. The base game includes the fighter roster and modes described above. Editions bundle additional content such as Super Limit-Breaking NEO, a Season Pass with four packs including Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and Dragon Ball Daima content with over 20 playable characters, an Ultimate Upgrade Pack with a Goku (Super) costume and Power Pole emote, a voice set, two player card backgrounds, and a customization item that increases a character's fighting ability. Certain editions also add the ability to summon Shenron in-game to wish for items such as zeni or to unlock playable characters.
