A roguelite beat 'em up

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons brings the brothers back in a side-scrolling brawler with roguelite elements, so every playthrough offers a chance at new action. The game leans into its 1990s pixel graphics and martial arts combat, with a post-apocalyptic setting behind the fights. It works as a singleplayer experience, but the tag system and character roster are built around swapping fighters and trying different approaches on each run.

Playing together

You can tag in with 2 of 4 starter characters, and 20 more characters can be unlocked, each with their own special moves and playstyles. Co-op is available both online and locally, so a group can split up or pair off depending on how they want to run a session. Local multiplayer and controller support are listed, which suits groups playing from one screen. Online Co-op and Remote Play Together are both supported, giving options for friends who are not in the same room.

Before you start

The roguelite structure means runs are meant to be repeated, with character unlocks and different playstyles carrying the variety between attempts. The roster starts small and grows as you unlock more fighters, so early sessions will revolve around the starter four. Combat is action-focused and tagged as casual-friendly, but the beat 'em up foundation means it still expects you to engage with the fighting directly rather than coast through it.
