What DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours is
DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours is the latest entry in Taito's DARIUS series of arcade-style side-scrolling shooters. You fly a Silver Hawk through stages packed with alien sea-monsters, and the environments branch, so the route you take decides which areas and bosses you meet. The boss roster runs past 40 enormous aquatic-themed battleships, including series favorites like Great Thing and Iron Fossil alongside new Chronicle Saviours exclusives. Zuntata's soundtrack mixes classic tracks with new compositions, and the game is built to be played with the sound up.
There are two main modes. AC Mode carries all the arcade content from Another Chronicle EX: Original Mode is an authentic recreation of the arcade campaign with its branching levels, Original EX is that same campaign tuned harder for players who want the extra challenge, and Chronicle Mode holds 3000+ stages unlocked by players globally. CS Mode is the single-player story mode with 200+ stages spanning the DARIUS timeline, bringing back classic ships and music. Across both you pick from 9 playable ships, some carrying powerful Burst weapons and others built around strong base firepower, so your ship's strengths and weaknesses shape how you play.
Playing it together
Up to 4 players can play locally in co-op, and the co-op has its own mechanics: power-ups can be shared between players, and Burst weapons can be combined for combos. That makes ship choice a group decision rather than a personal one — a mix of Burst-focused and firepower-focused ships gives the squad options. Remote Play Together is supported, so friends who are not in the same room can join a local session.
Chronicle Mode adds a shared layer. When you start, you are assigned a random virtual cabinet, and as you complete areas you liberate planets and unlock new stages. Liberating a world also unlocks it for everyone else in the same cabinet, so the group is effectively working through one shared map. That sets up natural comparisons: who clears the most worlds, and who posts the highest score in each one. Online leaderboards and Steam achievements back this up for score attacks.
Before you start
The game is tagged as difficult and as a bullet hell, so expect dense patterns and stages that ask for repeat attempts. Original EX mode exists specifically for players who want the arcade campaign harder than authentic, so starting there is not the gentlest entry point.
Chronicle Mode's unlocks are tied to your cabinet, which means progress there is partly about who else is playing alongside you rather than something you finish alone. CS Mode, by contrast, is built for single-player and is optimized for a single monitor to give a larger picture.
Display options matter here. AC Mode supports dual monitors at a 32:9 aspect ratio up to 6880 x 1440, and settings cover 16:9 and 32:9 up to 3440 x 1440. On a single screen the 32:9 view is letterboxed to preserve the original game's appearance, so a wider setup changes how much of the field you see. Cloud backup saves are supported, and the soundtrack is worth turning up.
