A dungeon run that listens to your voice
Cursed Companions is a first-person co-op horror game where the microphone is part of the mechanics. The game is always listening, and every player is cursed with a forbidden word such as "Okay", "I think" or "Didn't". Say yours out loud and you take damage. Say the right words instead and you can heal friends, light your torch, disable traps or shoo monsters away. Your voice can also work against you: wrong phrases can awaken monsters, hurt you or hurt your teammates. The dungeons are procedurally generated, so every run is a new layout, and they go deep enough that getting lost is a real risk. Along the way you meet over twenty monsters, including the Foul Moth, which punishes players who swear, the Meatgrinder, which you send packing by shouting "Who's your Daddy!", and the Bride, who is best scared off with bad pickup lines and awkward confessions. You can buy equipment such as the Teleport Stone, Ice Wand and Stink potions and use it however you like.
Playing together
Co-op Mode supports up to 8 players, and everyone plays as a team against the dungeon. The core loop is talking carefully: each of you has a different forbidden word, so a casual "Okay" from one person can damage whoever carries that curse. Coordinating out loud is both the tool and the trap. Beyond the standard runs, there are two standalone boss stages, a Challenge Mode with tougher dungeons, and an Endless Mode where you see how long the group can survive. Traitor Mode supports up to 16 players and flips the problem around: Traitors secretly sabotage the mission while everyone else tries to spot them. Being too obvious gets you voted out at an "Emergency Meeting". Between runs you unlock skins from achievements, including getting killed in unusual ways, and you can customize your home so friends can see it.
Before you start
Voice control is the whole premise, so the game needs your microphone active and everyone in the call willing to talk. Expect a mix of horror and comedy: monsters, dark dungeons and jump scares sitting alongside shouting bad pickup lines at a bride. The game officially supports English, Japanese, French, Spanish and Simplified Chinese for voice recognition, with German, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Italian, Dutch, Korean and Swedish in Language-Beta. Instructions are included for adding your own language using alternative voice models. Pick your group size first — 8 for Co-op, 16 for Traitor — and settle who is comfortable being loud before the first dungeon.
