A four-player time travel romp
Commander Cool 2 is a 2D retro-styled platformer where Commander Cool chases a thief through time. The trouble starts in a secret lab, where a curious janitor gets hold of a time travel device and the scientist loses his mind. Commander Cool is called in to climb into the rickety prototype and hunt the scoundrel down through the stone age. Expect dinosaurs, death dealers and a stack of absurd hardware along the way.
Playing together
The game is built around local co-op for up to four players, so you can sit on the same couch and run the levels as a team. Alongside the co-op campaign there is a deathmatch mode if your group would rather fight each other than the dinosaurs. Steam also lists Remote Play Together, which lets friends join in over a connection instead of sharing one room.
Weapons, levels and extras
You get up to 9 weapons of doom and destruction, including the RS-182 Rainbow Spitting Unicorn and the VW-21.2 Volcano Weapon, and you will need them across 34 levels set in the Stone Age, containing 90 missions. There are 14 funny player costumes to dress up in, a level editor for playing custom levels made by the community, and leaderboards for each level if anyone wants to chase speedrun times. The game also carries 27+ achievements, Steam Trading Cards, backgrounds and emoticons.
Before you start
Full controller support is listed, so hooking up pads for a local session is the straightforward route. The content list is large for a short session, so a group can dip into a handful of levels and come back to the rest later. If your friends are scattered, check that Remote Play Together works for your setup before you plan a night around it.
