What Cloud Cutter is

Cloud Cutter is a top-down twin stick shooter built around classic arcade shooting. You fly a ship through 13 detailed stages, blasting through hundreds of enemies as the environment changes around you. Stages carry challenging missions that push your reflexes, and each one leads into enormous multi-stage boss fights. Combat is fast and destructive, with arcade-style power-ups to collect, special powers to unleash, and lasers among your tools. Along the way you can upgrade your ship with the power-ups you pick up, so your loadout grows as a stage goes on. An atmospheric soundtrack runs under the whole thing, and completing in-game objectives unlocks achievements.

Playing it with friends

The store text says it is even more fun to played with a friend, and you work as a team on your way to victory. Steam lists Remote Play Together, which lets a friend join your session over the internet so two of you can take on the stages and bosses side by side. Between that and the score attack tagging, a group can also hand the controller around and compete on who clears a stage or racks up the better run, which suits a Discord crowd picking something quick to play together.

Before you start

Go in expecting old-school difficulty: the missions are designed to test your pilot reflexes, and the bosses are enormous and intimidating, so expect repeats while you learn their patterns. The tags include Singleplayer, so the core experience is built for one pilot, with the friend joining through Remote Play rather than a separate lobby mode. Controller is tagged too, so a pad is the natural way to play a twin stick shooter. It is a 3D game with a retro, old-school feel, so the presentation is modern while the structure is classic arcade: stages, missions, power-ups, score, and bosses.
