What Centipede: Recharged is

This is a top-down shooter that revives the original bug-blasting arcade game. You move through a 16:9 field of play, aiming and shooting at bugs while trying to build a high score. The visuals are vibrant and built for modern screens, and the whole run is scored by an original soundtrack from composer Megan McDuffee. The game keeps the old-school feel but updates the controls for smooth play on modern PCs and consoles.

Playing with your group

Every mode and every level supports local co-op, so you can tag in a friend and blast bugs together. That covers the endless arcade mode as well as all 30 challenges, so you are never stuck playing alone if someone else wants in. Remote Play Together is available, which lets a friend join over the internet as if they were sitting next to you. The goal stays the same either way: work through the swarm, keep each other alive, and push the score as high as you can.

Modes, power-ups, and leaderboards

Arcade mode is the endless run where you chase a high score and try to get your name to the top of the leaderboard. Alongside it sit 30 unique challenges that twist the gameplay in new ways and each carry their own leaderboard ranking. A dozen power-ups drop in during play and change how a run goes: screen-clearing explosions, rail guns, time slowing, bombs dropped in a row, side-shots, and effects that scare enemies away. Learning when to grab which power-up is a big part of a good run.

Before you start

Expect a score attack mindset: runs are about survival and squeezing out points, and the 30 challenges are built to test even seasoned players. The game is tagged for controller play, so a pad is a comfortable fit alongside keyboard. It works as a singleplayer game, but the co-op support across every mode is the reason to bring a friend along.
