A cat-and-dog open-world RPG
CAT QUEST II is a 2D open-world action-RPG set in a fantasy realm of cats and dogs. The story follows two kings, a cat and a dog, who are brought together against their will on a journey to reclaim their thrones. The war between the cats of Felingard and the advancing dogs of the Lupus Empire sets the stage. You explore their kingdoms, fight curious monsters, collect loot, and take on side quests that each tell their own story and expand the lore of the world. Combat is hack-and-slash style with magic thrown in, and dungeons are filled with traps and obstacles to keep each run feeling different.
Playing together with your group
This is a game built for two. Local co-op lets you and a friend sit down together, one of you playing as the cat and the other as the dog, exploring the kingdoms side by side. If you are not in the same room, Remote Play Together lets a friend join your session over the internet. When you are on your own, the character switch mechanic lets you swap between the cat and dog as needed, so the full story is playable solo as well.
What to know before starting
The game leans on a mix of melee and magic. You can master swords, staves, and other weapon types, and there are plenty of spells to use against enemies. Passive abilities can be mixed and combined, so there is room to build your characters in different directions as you go. Expect a steady stream of side quests alongside the main path, and dungeons that vary in their traps and obstacles. It is a lighthearted, cartoony take on the action-RPG format, so the tone stays playful even when the combat picks up.
