What Captain Wayne - Vacation Desperation is
Captain Wayne - Vacation Desperation is a first-person retro shooter with a hand-drawn cartoon look and plenty of gore. You play Wayne, a sailor who lost his arm to the legendary Vampire Whale and replaced it with his double-barreled shotgun, The Captain's Ol' Reliable. After a run-in with a group of evil mercenaries leaves him marooned on Orca Isle with his ship, the S.S. Salty, stolen, he goes after the Killer Whales, the most ruthless mercenaries in the seven-and-a-half seas. The campaign runs through 8 large areas across Orca Isle, with animated cutscenes filling in the story between fights.
How a group plays it together
The game is built as a singleplayer experience, but it supports Remote Play Together, so a friend can join your session over a connection and play along with you from their own machine. One person owns and runs the game, and the rest tag along through that shared session. Expect a linear, fast-paced run through the levels rather than a mode built around teams competing against each other.
Weapons and combat
Wayne's arsenal goes well beyond the arm shotgun. He has chain-gun fingers for ripping enemies apart, a bottle of explosive Boom Brew to throw, thunder he can unleash from his palms, and fists for punching enemies into paste. Combat is fast and aggressive, matching a soundtrack built around aggression and chaos, and enemies go down in gory fashion. Alongside the campaign there is an Endless Mode, where the goal is to survive the onslaught for as long as you can.
Before you start
The game leans into comedy and cartoon violence, with a hot pink-wearing, cigar-huffing captain out to rob and humiliate the rich, so the tone is crude and over the top rather than serious. It is tagged for controller support, and the visual style mixes 3D and 2.5D presentation with hand-drawn art. If you are planning to play with friends, make sure whoever owns the game is the one hosting the Remote Play Together session.
