One button, endless rooftops
Canabalt is a side-scrolling runner where you sprint across a collapsing city with a single button. Press to jump, hold to jump farther, and that is the whole control scheme. The buildings fall away behind you, the gaps get wider, and the pace keeps climbing until a missed landing ends the run. Everything is rendered in pixel art with a soundtrack that drives the rhythm of the jumps, so the run feels more like keeping time than reacting to obstacles.
Playing together
The game supports two players, and Steam Remote Play Together lets a friend join from their own machine. Eight game modes cover both solo and two-player play, so you can split the screen and race each other, or take turns chasing a shared high score. Four different runners are available to dash across the rooftops with, which gives each run a slightly different feel depending on who you pick. Classic mode stays as it was: a straightforward race for survival with no safety net.
Before you start
There is no difficulty setting to soften the learning curve. The game is built around repetition — you will crash often, learn the timing of each jump, and go a little farther on the next attempt. The new modes add variety when you want a break from the classic run, but the core loop stays the same: one button, one runner, one more rooftop. Expect short sessions that turn into long ones once the high score starts pulling at you.
