What's in the collection

Breakers Collection bundles both of the original games, Breakers and Breakers Revenge, plus new content added for this release. The series started in 1996 on Neo Geo and arcades, and the sequel followed in 1998 with extra playable characters, balance changes and new gameplay elements. Breakers Revenge has 10 playable characters. It's a straightforward 2D action fighter with a roster that fans of the series already know from around the world. The special moves follow the conventions of other fighting games from the same period, but dashing and back-stepping work differently depending on which character you pick, so each one has its own feel in movement.

Playing together

The Steam features list Online PvP and Remote Play Together, so you can fight against other players over the network, or share a session with friends through Remote Play Together. Local Multiplayer is tagged as well, so two people on the same machine can go at each other on the 2D stage. The tag list also includes PvP, Multiplayer and Fighting, and the arcade heritage shows in the head-to-head structure. If your group wants to settle things in a session of matches, this is the straightforward pick: pick a character, learn how that character dashes and steps back, and run sets.

Before you start

Expect the retro presentation of a mid-1990s arcade fighter: pixel graphics, anime-styled character art, and the loud, playful tone of that era — the tags call out Funny and Old School alongside Violent and Sexual Content, so the content is in line with an unfiltered 1996 arcade release rather than something toned down. Singleplayer is tagged too, so there's something to do when the group isn't around. The special actions are recognisable if you've played other fighters from the 1990s, but the differences in dashing and back-stepping between characters are the part worth spending time on before you take it online.
