Fighting in first person

Barbaria is a VR combat and building game where you play as a Semigod. Combat happens in first person with fists, axes, swords, bows, rocks, and whatever else you can pick up. You can toss enemies to an ally to finish off, catch rocks flying at your head, light an arrow before loosing it, and launch opponents into the air with traps. When you want a break from the front line, you step into your immortal form and watch your minions keep fighting while you drop meteors from above. Combat, enemy AI, and the defenses other players build all interact, so no two battles play out the same.

Building your realm

Between fights you snap tile fragments together to shape your realm, then place structures, champions, and minions to defend it. Your realm stays online once it is built, so other players can attack it whenever they like. You get attack notifications each time you launch the game, and you can watch replays of the raid in miniature from your Stronghold to see where the defense held and where it broke. Use what you learn to rearrange structures and reposition defenders before the next attacker shows up. Attacking other player-made realms raises your Mightiness, and your team gets rewards when it successfully repels incoming raids.

Playing with a group

The multiplayer here is asynchronous: your friends raid your realm on their own schedule, and you raid theirs on yours, rather than everyone meeting in one match. That makes it easy to trade realms with a group, compare how each of you built defenses, and watch each other's replays to pick apart the design. Tossing enemies to allies and coordinating who handles what in a fight is part of the fun when you are in a session together.

Before you start

Barbaria is a VR game with first-person combat, and the tags include gore and beat 'em up content, so expect bloody swordplay. It also carries a singleplayer tag alongside the online PvP side, so you can play through combat and building on your own while your realm sits open for raids.
