What bagelball is

bagelball is a physics- and movement-based sports game played in 3D. You carry a bagel instead of driving a car, and the whole match runs for 5 minutes: whoever scores the most goals by the clock runs out wins. Only bagels can move the ball properly, so the ball is not something you dribble with your body — you hit it with your bagel, and you use the same bagel to get around the arena.

Playing together

Matches run 1v1 or 2v2. The lobby browser lets you set up a game with your friends or find another player, and you can join a match before it starts to spectate if you arrive early. Netcode is peer-to-peer. There are four maps currently, with more planned, so you will see the same arenas for a while. The team format means one person can focus on the ball while the other covers space, and roles can shift mid-match depending on where the bagels end up.

Movement and controls

The movement system is the part to spend time on before you take a match seriously. Left click picks up or drops your bagel, and WASD moves you. Shift sprints, Ctrl fastfalls, and Space jumps — pressing Space again in the air double-jumps, and pressing Space on a wall wall-jumps. The scroll wheel changes how far the bagel sits from you: close or far. Jump onto a bagel sitting underneath you while it is in close mode and you start flying, which is how you cross the map quickly and get above the ball. Right click does a quantum switch, which swaps your bagel's position.

Practice mode exists for exactly this reason — the bagel's physics behave differently from a standard character controller, so getting the flying, wall jumps, and bagel throwing comfortable first makes the first real match much less chaotic. Expect a learning curve around combining throwing the bagel at high velocity with repositioning yourself, since your bagel is both your shot and your means of travel.
