What Attack on Toys is
Attack on Toys is a third-person shooter with real-time strategy mixed in. You lead plastic army men into battle: pick an army color, build a squad, and drive tanks, jeeps, helicopters, planes, and robot mechs while a strategy map lets you command the wider fight. Squad members level up through battle but die permanently, and you collect items, weapons, backpacks, and hats along the way. Buildings are destructible, and you can fight in first-person or third-person view.
The modes cover different goals. Invasion has you defending your HQ against endless waves, and Terror Invasion does the same against zombies, cockroaches, and spiders. Skirmish is about destroying every enemy HQ, Conquest is about claiming and holding territory, and PvP is LAN-only and ends when you take out the enemy player HQs. The Toy Box lets you build your own maps and battle scenarios, and you can play and share those creations through Steam Workshop, including mods made by the community.
Playing together
Split screen works both offline and online. Locally, up to four players share the screen, with player one on mouse and keyboard or gamepad and the rest on gamepads. Online, you use Steam Remote Play Together to invite friends from your Steam list or through a link, and only one copy of the game is needed for the whole group. Each player keeps their own save profile, so everyone brings their own squad, items, and loadouts into the session and levels up their own progress.
Split screen works across all the game modes, including PvP, Invasion, Skirmish, Conquest, Toy Box, custom Toy Box levels, and Workshop content. You can also build a custom map specifically for split screen battles.
Before you start
The game is in Early Access, and development focuses more on single player than multiplayer. Native multiplayer is LAN only right now, limited to LAN PvP and LAN co-op Invasion on official maps; Toy Box and Workshop levels are single player only. Online play with friends goes through Remote Play Together instead.
Supported gamepads include Xbox, Switch Pro, DualShock, and other generic controllers. If this is your first time using Remote Play Together for online split screen, the game's Steam discussions and guides have a tutorial for it, and there are mod and Toy Box creation guides on the developers' Workshop page and YouTube channel.
