What Asterogues is

Asterogues is a top-down bullet hell shooter with roguelike runs. You pick a character from a group of outcasts banished to the Asteroid Belt and fight your way toward the center of the Solar System to get revenge on the Sun. The run takes you across various zones filled with swarms of asteroids, aliens, and stars, and the 8 planets guard their territories along the way. Each character has a special ability that turns enemies' bullets against them, and you collect dozens of passive and active items during a run to build new combinations. The enemy roster is built around learning patterns: Sun-worshippers fire their own projectiles, and each bullet and enemy type has a behavior you need to read to survive.

Playing together

Asterogues has local multiplayer and co-op, so a group can sit around one screen and take on the run together. Remote Play Together is supported, which lets friends join over a network as if they were local. Everyone picks a character, each with their own special ability, and you push through the zones as a group while the bullet patterns pile up. Coordinating who handles which threats matters, since the screen fills with projectiles from multiple sources and the planets at the end of each territory need to go down before you reach the Sun.

Before you start

Expect a steep difficulty curve. The game is built around reading bullet and enemy patterns, so runs reward patience and repetition more than raw aggression. A tutorial is available to cover the basics before you dive in. Items and weapons change from run to run, which means your build and your approach will shift each time you play. Each character plays differently, so unlocking and mastering them is a big part of the game. The pixel-art 2D presentation keeps the action readable, but the screen can still get crowded when multiple enemies fire at once.
