A retro base-building RTS

8-Bit Armies is a real-time strategy game from Petroglyph, built around classic base-building. You collect resources, construct and defend your base, gather an army of modern military units, and push through to destroy the enemy. The whole thing is rendered in a colorful, blocky voxel style, and Petroglyph describes it as their most fast-paced and accessible RTS to date. The units and structures are deliberately easy to understand, so it works as an entry point if more serious strategy games have felt like too much to learn.

Playing together

The game includes 12 co-op missions built for two players, so you and a friend can take on the AI side by side. There is also an AI skirmish mode where you can team up with or fight against computer opponents with multiple difficulty settings, plus Player-vs-Player multiplayer running on dedicated servers. The multiplayer and skirmish maps support up to 8 players online, and there are 10 of them to play on. Remote Play Together is supported as well, letting someone join in from a friend's session.

Before you start

There is a 25-mission single-player campaign to work through on your own if you want to learn the ropes first. Maps range from small to very large and feature destructible environments, so terrain can change as the fighting spreads. The game is for PC.
