Twins, a portal, and a missing foster father
Young Souls is a side-scrolling beat 'em up wrapped in a story-rich action RPG. Jenn and Tristan are orphans taken in by a mysterious scientist who disappears under odd circumstances. Following his trail, they find a hidden cellar and the Moon Gate, a portal into a parallel world where goblins thrive. The game follows their fight to bridge the human world and the goblin realm while searching for him. The world is split between the stylish human world and four unique biomes in the goblins' twisted realm, with dozens of dungeons to push through.
Playing together
You can play solo or in co-op as Jenn and Tristan. The game also supports Remote Play Together, so friends can join in over a connection. Either way, the campaign runs through both worlds, with hordes of enemies and over 20 bosses waiting in the goblin realm. Combat is punishing and demanding, so expect to take hits and get back up.
Gear, stats, and preparation
Between fights there is plenty to do on the human side. Hundreds of weapons, armour sets, and accessories can be unlocked and upgraded, with stat combinations that let you build an attacking, defensive, or balanced style. Loot chests drop from battles and help offset the damage you take. Back home, Happy Fit lets you nap and then train to raise strength, resistance, and stamina. Solid Sneakers sells shoes that add style and boost stats, and Teen Spirit handles makeovers and hats. Kit out both twins from head to toe before stepping back through the Moon Gate.
