What World of Warships puts you in command of
World of Warships is a free-to-play naval combat game from Wargaming Group Limited, mixing action, simulation and strategy on large maps. You take the helm of historical warships from the first half of the 20th century, faithfully recreated in 3D: battleships, destroyers, cruisers, submarines and aircraft carriers. The roster runs to over 800 ships, including the Yamato and the U-190, and each type plays differently — slow, heavy hitters, sneaky torpedo boats, and carrier captains directing aircraft rather than steering into the fight themselves. Battles pit large fleets against each other, and every maneuver and salvo matters; a poor turn or a mistimed push can cost you the match.
Playing with friends
You can group up with friends in a Division and take on co-operative challenges together, with online co-op available alongside PvP matches against other players. For something with longer stakes, you can join a Clan, work your way up the Clan league, and try to finish top of your server. The Steam version carries achievements and trading cards, and your progress syncs through Steam Cloud, so a session on one machine picks up on another.
Fitting ships to your style
Progress runs through 13 national Tech Trees, unlocking new ships as you go. You tune how each one plays by installing modifications, unlocking skills for your Commanders, and choosing camouflage and other cosmetics to change your fleet's appearance. Ship upgrades are the main way to build toward your preferred approach — a battleship loaded for punishment plays nothing like one built for accuracy.
Before you start
This is a Massively Multiplayer PvP title, so expect matchmaking against other players and an audience that has had time to learn the ropes. It includes in-app purchases. The accessibility options are worth a look: adjustable text size, color alternatives, camera comfort settings, custom volume controls, and play without timed input. Family Sharing is supported.
