A 2D fighter set in the Hollow Night
UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[cl-r] is a 2D fighting game from FRENCH-BREAD. You pick one of 20 characters and fight through the Hollow Night, a place where the organization Night Blade has acted as guardians since time immemorial. Monsters called Voids feed on the power that manifests there, while those known as In-births use that same power for their own ends. The story follows Linne, the Princess of the Night Blade, and a young boy named Hyde who carries the fabled sword of destiny she has been searching for. Linne hears of an evil plot hatched by someone calling themselves "Paradox," who turns out to be Hilda, the leader of a shadowy organization known as "Amnesia." She vows to stop her before her plans come to fruition, and Hyde follows behind her with a desperate need to know who and what she is. At the center of it all lies the Abyss, an unimaginable and uncontrolled phenomenon that threatens everything.
Playing together
The game supports Online PvP, so you and your friends can fight each other from your own setups. Remote Play Together is also available, letting others join in over a connection. Each player picks a character and goes head to head in the fight. The controls are described as intuitive and tight, with devastating combos and unique fighting styles to keep your appetite for battle sated. A new system called Cross-Cast Veil Off lets you activate Veil Off within a combo to send your opponent flying with a shockwave, allowing for follow up extra attacks. During Cross-Cast Veil Off you have access to special moves such as Infinite Worth even if your EXS is at 100, giving you the chance to inflict serious damage with your combo. Mastering this can turn the tide of battle in your favor.
Before you start
The game carries tags including Difficult and Competitive, so expect a learning curve typical of fighting games. There is a Tutorial tag, which points to guidance for learning the systems. The story is presented in a fantasy light-novel style, and Visual Novel and Story Rich tags suggest there is narrative to work through alongside the fighting.
