A Bullet-Hell Shooter Rebuilt in 3D
Truxton Extreme is a top-down shoot 'em up where you fly through dense waves of alien invaders and gigantic bosses. Your ship carries a rotating set of weapons: Power Shot, Truxton Beam, Thunder Laser, Homing Shot, and Star-mine Shot, among others. You swap between them to handle different enemy formations while dodging heavy bullet patterns. The whole game is rendered in 3D now, but it keeps the series' classic look with insect-like faces, writhing metal tentacles, long mechanical serpents, glowing lights, and spikes. Masahiro Yuge, who created the original at Toaplan, wrote a new score that mixes reworked tracks from the older games with fresh music.
Playing With Friends
Team mode is the way to go if you want to play with a friend. Two players share lives and a combined score, so you have to coordinate who takes which threats and when to spend resources. The game also supports Remote Play Together, which lets someone join your session over the internet even if they do not have the game installed. Beyond Team, there is a Co-op Campaign tag attached to the game, plus local multiplayer and local co-op options listed among the tags.
Modes and Extras
Story mode follows three characters, lets you level up as you progress, and tells its narrative through an animated manga series. Arcade mode is there for players who want the traditional experience. Arena is a score-attack mode for chasing high numbers, and Training and Tutorial modes exist for learning the systems before you commit to a run. Unlockable extras include a Model Viewer where you can inspect enemies you have defeated, and Pipiru Village, a home for the Pipiru creatures that changes as you evolve it. The design goal from the start was a shooter where muscle memory matters, so expect repeated runs to build up your reflexes.
