A strategy game run entirely by typing
Touch Type Tale puts you in control of Paul, a humble wizard's apprentice who becomes the unlikely hero of Minsteria. The vacant throne has drawn the attention of sly nobles and warmongering bandits, and your typewriter is the tool you use to push back. You type to construct buildings, mine gold from ore deposits, and maneuver your armies down strategic paths. The whole game is controlled from the keyboard, so the mouse stays out of it. Alongside the campaign, the game includes typing minigames such as a cook-off, a shooting gallery, a rhythm game, a bullet hell, and a Grand Strategy challenge. Jim Broadbent provides the voice for the story.
Playing together with your group
The main way to play together is through online multiplayer skirmishes, where you can test your typing-driven strategy against each other and appear on the Leaderboards. Since the entire game runs on the keyboard, matches come down to who can keep their fingers moving while making tactical calls. There is also a Twitch integration: stream the game and let Chat control it. Viewers type words in Chat to vote on what gets typed in-game, which you set up through Options in the Game Menu by linking your Twitch Channel.
What to know before starting
Combat is built around unit types, army size, and the routes ahead. You command Swordsmen, Archers, Spearmen, and Cavalry, with Golems and Catapults available as well. Gold comes from hiring Workers to mine and farm, and you spend it on unit upgrades and buildings like Stables, Barracks, and Spearhuts. Charging down an enemy or flanking them in a pincer movement deals bonus damage. An Ink Factory unlocks advanced spells such as Teleport and Plague. The text and typing mechanic support thirteen languages, and you can pick a difficulty setting that fits your playstyle, then replay at higher difficulties for rewards. The game is built to improve typing accuracy, typing speed, multitasking ability, and language skills.
