Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance is a real-time strategy game set in the Terminator: Dark Fate universe, focusing on the war between humanity and Legion's synthetic machine network. In the single-player campaign, you take the role of a commander in the Founders, a force made up of remnants of the US military. Your goal is to guide your army and foil Legion's plan to exterminate the last remnants of humanity. The campaign features an army that carries over from mission to mission across a series of large strategic maps, where you make decisions about unit placement, battle tactics, and abilities. Your choices have deep consequences that impact the campaign, affecting which factions and characters join or fight against you, and determining which missions become available.
Fighting Together Online
The game offers online PvP through skirmish and multiplayer modes where you can play as three distinct factions: Founders, Movement, and Legion. You can face off against AI or real human opponents in 1v1 and 2v2 battles across vast strategic landscapes. Every decision matters in these matches, impacting alliances and the overall outcome of the fight.
Battlefield Mechanics and Army Management
Battles are complex and realistic, with tactical decisions vital to survival and victory. You use a variety of military equipment, vehicles, and ammunition types. Resources are limited, so you must protect your army. Weapons and vehicles receive damage through a modular component damage system where armour characteristics, component malfunctions, and hull structure all affect whether your troops survive. You recruit and train new units, assign skills, and acquire new weapons and equipment. Your army composition can be mixed and matched to fit your preferred tactics, including infantry units, heavy armoured military vehicles, plasma cannon technology, drones, flying units, and human skirmishers. Physics-based building demolition creates realistic tactical consequences, especially in urban areas, letting you use the battlefield to your advantage.
