What Streets of Fury EX is
Streets of Fury EX is an old-school "go right" beat 'em up set in Paris, where you fight through the gangs that control the city. It plays like a side scroller but carries the depth of a versus fighting game: lots of moves, special moves, furies, cancels, chain combos, air combos and dodging are all in there to learn and string together. There are 24 playable characters to work with, and you raise your Security Level to unlock new characters, new game modes and more. The cast includes famous youtubers Benzaie, Bob Lennon and Nostalgia Critic, plus fighting game pros Kayane and Ryan Hart. A whole new soundtrack by K93 runs under the action.
Playing together
Up to 4 players can join in locally, and you choose how you want to share the screen: cooperate through the campaign, or turn on each other. Story mode has you hunting the gang leaders in their respective districts, while Alternate Story mode flips the script and lets you build your own gang. Versus mode covers free for all and team battle for multiplayer mayhem, Survival mode throws endless waves of enemies at you to see how long you last, and Challenge mode is time attack on special levels. The game works with any controller, and Remote Play Together is available if your group wants to join from elsewhere.
Before you start
Expect a beat 'em up that rewards learning its systems rather than mashing — the combo, cancel and fury mechanics are where the depth sits, so the first few brawls will feel clumsy while you figure out the timing. Unlockables are tied to the Security Level, so early sessions are mostly about grinding through districts and modes to open up the roster and the extra game types. Decide as a group whether you are running the co-op campaign or going competitive in Versus, since the same couch can hold both. The FMV and retro presentation are part of the package, so it leans into an arcade-era feel rather than a modern one.
