Building a company from the ground up
Software Inc. puts you in charge of a software and hardware company where you design the office yourself. You buy plots on a large map and place rooms, walls and furniture with a free-form building tool, no grid required. Buildings can go up to ten stories plus a basement, and you can copy and paste sections to speed things up. Beyond the walls you also lay roads, paths, bike racks and parking so your employees can commute. Inside, you hire staff to design, develop, support, update, research and market your products, and you keep them fed, comfortable and motivated with food, coffee and well-maintained equipment.
Running the business
Once the office is standing, the work begins. You assemble teams with different skills and specializations, watch how well they get along, and push products out on time. You can take contract work, file patents, make deals and trade stocks alongside selling your own software and hardware. Servers, source control and an online store are all things you set up yourself. Support staff handle repairs, cleaning, cooking, transport, security and reception, so you can focus on the bigger decisions. The market is simulated and randomized each playthrough, and every choice you make shifts how the competition plays out.
Playing with friends
Software Inc. supports online co-op and online PvP. You can share a single map with up to three other players and either fight them for the market or work together, splitting up tasks like manufacturing jobs, server hosting and delegated work. You can also hand off responsibilities to your own team leaders in single player, letting them manage development cycles and human resources while you steer the company.
Things to know before starting
This is an Early Access title from Coredumping, tagged as Indie, Simulation and Strategy. It is moddable: you can add furniture, upload building blueprints, change what software can be developed, add language support, or write your own code to alter the game. Expect a management-heavy sandbox with a lot of moving parts rather than a fixed campaign.
