What SimRail is
SimRail is a railway simulator built around realistic driving physics, the kind previously used in professional training tools. You drive high-speed EMUs, heavy freight trains, suburban services, and steam, diesel and electric vehicles from different eras. The routes are based on geodetic data and cover about 500 km of real track, including present-day European high-speed, long-distance and suburban lines, plus the sand railway of Upper Silesia in Poland as it was in the 1980s. The environment uses Unity, with wind moving grass and trees, a dynamic weather system that brings puddles and snow drifts, and animated passengers tied to randomized scenarios.
Playing together
Multiplayer lets you cooperate with other players in real time, with weather and communication shared across the session. One player can take a train while another takes a signal box, or you can split roles across the group. As a dispatcher you work inside the signal box, managing your station, setting paths for trains according to the rules and the schedule. Devices come from different eras, and they can break, so the job is not just following the timetable. Take over a train or a signal box and run it alongside the people you are with.
Before you start
Expect a simulation that asks for attention to schedules, signals and rules rather than a quick round. Trains from different eras handle differently, and the physics reflects the real technology behind them, so the first runs will involve learning how each vehicle responds. Weather changes during play and affects conditions on the route. If you plan to work as a dispatcher, be ready to read the schedule and set paths correctly while keeping an eye on equipment that may fail.
