What Remnant: From the Ashes is

Remnant: From the Ashes is a third-person survival action shooter in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monstrous creatures. An ancient evil from another dimension has thrown the world into chaos, and humanity is struggling to survive. People still have the technology to open portals to other realms and alternate realities, so you travel through them to uncover where the evil came from, scavenge resources to stay alive, and fight back to carve out a foothold for mankind to rebuild. Expect tough enemies, epic bosses, and hostile environments that push back hard. It carries the tags Survival, Horror, Souls-like and Dark Fantasy, so the tone is grim and the encounters are demanding rather than casual.

Playing it with your group

You can set out alone or alongside up to two other survivors, which means a group of three covers a full lobby. Invading other worlds to seek an end to the Root is dangerous and survival is far from guaranteed, so the game is built around the idea that teamwork is necessary to make it through the toughest challenges and to unlock the greatest rewards. Everyone fights in third person against hordes of enemies and bosses, and the shared goal is to carve a foothold, rebuild, and retake what was lost. Since the difficulty is flagged as high, coordinating who pushes, who holds ground, and how you spend upgrade materials matters more than raw reflexes.

What to know before starting

The four unique worlds are dynamically generated, so maps, enemy encounters, quest opportunities and in-world events change each time you play through them. That means your group will see fresh layouts and challenges on a second run instead of repeating the same route. Overcoming enemies and bosses earns experience, loot and upgrade materials, which you spend on weapons, armor and modifications to approach encounters in dozens of different ways. Plan for a build-and-adapt loop: scavenge, upgrade, specialize, then take on the next world with a different loadout. Also be ready for a steep curve — the game is tagged Difficult, and the Lovecraftian, atmospheric setting keeps the pressure on between fights.
