What Pixel Cup Soccer is
Pixel Cup Soccer is a retro-style arcade soccer game built around pixel art that looks like the games of the 80s and 90s. The matches are fast and direct: you move, pass, and shoot, and the game strips soccer down to the fun part. Controls are simple enough to pick up in a minute, but the deeper mechanics take real practice: short passes, through passes, lob passes, aiming when you shoot, controlled shots, player skills, and super shots. Tackling, sprinting, and dribbling all sit on top of that. Matches include fouls, injuries, yellow and red cards, penalties, and free kicks, plus animated moves like overhead kicks, scorpion kicks, scissor kicks, and diving headers. The AI teams play noticeably differently from each other, with styles like Catenaccio and Tiki-Taka showing up on the pitch.
Playing together with your group
You can play alone against the computer or bring friends in. Up to 8 players can join for 4 vs 4 matches, whether you are all on one couch locally or connected through Steam Remote Play Together. Modes cover friendly matches, tournaments, and a party tournament, and you decide whether your group plays competitively, cooperatively, or mixes both in one session. There is also a penalty kicks mode for quick rounds. The tactical panel lets players manage substitutions, formation, and team attitude during a match, so a group can split roles rather than everyone chasing the ball.
Career mode and competitions
Career mode is where you build a team from the ground up and climb through leagues D, C, B, and A, then the Country Cup and International Cup, aiming for the Champion of the Club Global Cup. You act as General Manager and Coach, handling the club's important decisions. Teams are fully customizable: name, players, shirt colors, and club flag. The competition list is long, including Global Cup, American Cup, European Cup, Women's Global Cup, Global Cup 1930, OlymPixel for men and women, Liberty Cup, Euro Champ Cup, and the Pixel League A through D. You can also play a Co-Op career with friends and take your custom career teams forward together. Steam Workshop support means infinite teams and tournaments can be downloaded.
Before you start
Women's soccer is included alongside men's. The settings menu offers zoom level, VSync, slow motion, assisted mode, and language selection, which is worth checking before your first match if someone in the group wants a gentler assist or a different camera. Controller support is listed, so sorting out pads for everyone ahead of time keeps the first session smooth. Note that Remote Play Together is the path for playing online with friends; local play and the remote feature are separate options.
