Sailing and Fighting on a Shared Server

Piratopia puts you in a ship on open seas where everyone plays on the same server. You can sail alone, fight the environment, or take on other players. Loot comes from NPCs and from other pirates, and you spend it on ship upgrades and special ammunition. The goal is to build your ship up until you can dominate the server, with the Kraken as a target worth hunting once you are ready. The game is in Early Access, so things can change as it develops.

Playing With Your Group

Your group can team up as maties and sail together. Battles run through online co-op for working as a crew and online PvP when you want to fight other players. The chat is there for talking to other pirates, and the game leans into the idea that crews form around rare loot. Team up when it helps, but the game expects betrayal, so keep an eye on anyone outside your crew.

Equipment and Combat Choices

You get 10 unique equipments, each with its own role in a fight. The Base Cannon is weak but works in many situations. The Flamethrower bursts down enemies, the Electric Bomb stuns for a short time, and the Railgun deals heavy damage that pierces through targets. The Mortar works well against forts, Mines handle groups, and the Shotgun is for close range. Force Field pushes enemies away and stuns them, Invulnerability Shield blocks all damage for its duration, and the Harpoon lets you dash away from hits or move faster. Mixing these based on who you are fighting is a big part of each battle.

What to Know Before You Start

Deaths cost you some resources and gold. Only ship level, gems, and gold carry over in a session, so upgrade as much as you can before you log off. Outside of that, you collect resources for permanent ship upgrades, craft special bullets, and hire crew. Gems are worth collecting across runs, since gathering all of them claims the BMF title. The game is free to play and tagged Minimalist and Cute, with naval combat, sailing, exploration, and roguelike elements shaping the loop.
