What Mini Motor Racing X is

Mini Motor Racing X is a top-down arcade racer where small cars, nitro boosts and combat bring the chaos. The career mode takes you through four championships set across reclaimed ruins, scorched outbacks, rain-soaked docks and sun-kissed tropical islands, with day/night cycles and varying weather along the way. There are over 50 tracks and hundreds of races to work through, and you collect dozens of cars as you go. Race winnings go straight back into your garage as upgrades, so the cars you build up carry you deeper into the campaign. The tracks can be raced in flat screen or in VR, and the whole game has been re-designed and tuned for VR, with extra play modes added there.

Playing it together

The campaign can be tackled alone or completed with a friend, either on the same couch in local co-op or online. For competitive racing, up to four players can take on any of the 52 tracks in online races, including against players outside your group. Couch play goes up to four people in split-screen, with a range of competitive races available alongside the co-op campaign. If you want something looser than a straight race, the party modes are the answer — Bumper Ball and Micro Motor Racing are named examples, and these are designed to be played with friends who will end up annoyed with each other in the best way.

Before you start

Be aware that VR and non-VR players can play together, with multiplayer cross play supported between them as well as across several other platforms. The game also supports 4K and ultra-wide resolutions, so it is worth sorting your display settings before a long session. If you already own Mini Motor Racing Evo on Steam, Mini Motor Racing X is added to your account as well. A soundtrack is part of the package, which matters more than you might expect once you are a few hours into a career grind.
