A Cold War sandbox you play as either superpower

Maestro's Cold War 2 is a grand-strategy sandbox where you lead either the USA or the USSR through the tensest standoff of the Cold War. You manage three main resources: Prestige, Budget, and National Policies. Prestige is the scoreboard — you earn it by improving diplomatic relations and signing treaties with countries around the world, and whoever ends up with more prestige points than their opponent wins. Meanwhile your rival works constantly to pull nations in your bloc away from you and shift the balance of power. The map is top-down and 2D, and the focus is geostrategy across the globe rather than the internal workings of one country.

Playing it as a group

Online PvP puts two of you on opposite sides of the Iron Curtain, so the natural group setup is to pair off and take a match against each other: one person runs the USA, the other the USSR. The standoff is built around indirect pressure, so matches reward players who talk through their plans, argue over which proxy to back, and second-guess what the other side is doing. Whoever is not in the match can watch and comment, which suits a Discord call where people take turns in the hot seat. Games are designed to be finishable in a single evening, so you can rotate opponents across a session instead of committing to a long campaign.

What to know before you start

This is a reading game. Much of the depth comes from tooltips, event reports, and an in-game wiki, so expect to slow down and absorb what the game is telling you rather than clicking through. It also rewards long-term thinking: the best results come from planning years ahead and adapting when historical events force your hand, not from reacting to next month's headlines. Military intervention is rarely the right answer — if troops are on the ground, something has gone wrong — so favor diplomacy, proxies, treaties, and patience. It is also Early Access, so mechanics and content may still shift as development continues.
