A pixel beat 'em up with a hero to question
I Am The Hero is a side-scrolling beat 'em up built around fast, fluid fighting in pixel art. You play a "Hero" whose past is glorious but unclear, and the campaign keeps asking whether he really is the figure he believes himself to be. Alongside that story thread, the game leans on retro fighting classics: quick movement, close-quarters brawling, and enemies that keep coming until the fight is done. It works as a single player campaign if you just want to run through it alone.
Fighting style and the Critical Blink
Combat is built on free style combos, so you can trample, juggle, rush and crush enemies in whatever order suits the moment rather than following one fixed string. Each character brings their own way of fighting, which means your group can end up with very different habits at the keyboard or pad. The other mechanic to learn is Critical Blink: time your attacks perfectly and you unleash massive damage on your foes. Getting that timing down changes how aggressive you can be, since a well-placed hit can swing a crowded screen back in your favor.
Playing together
The game supports local co-op and online co-op, plus Remote Play Together, so you can share a session with friends whether they are on the same couch or somewhere else. There is also a Survival Mode alongside the campaign, which gives a group a mode to throw themselves at repeatedly instead of only replaying the story. Pick your fighters, agree on who focuses on juggling and who saves their Critical Blink for the tougher enemies, and push through together.
Before you start
Expect a retro-inspired package: 2D pixel graphics, side-scrolling levels, and combat that rewards reading enemy patterns and keeping momentum. It is a fighting game first, so the fun comes from practicing movement and combo timing rather than from long setup. Start with the campaign to learn each character's rhythm, then move to Survival Mode once the group wants something to grind against.
